The Second Annual Great London Garden Trail Comes To Town
Over the May Day Bank Holiday, a selection of professionally designed gardens
will be opened to the public, forming the second annual ‘Great London Garden Trail’,
to celebrate the launch of the latest RHS title, How to Grow Practically Everything.
The trail, which is FREE, will take place on Monday 3rd May 2010.
Following on from the success of last year’s Trail, which attracted 5,000 visitors,
the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), book publishers Dorling Kindersley (DK) and
the Society of Garden Designers (SGD), have once again joined forces to present
some of the capital’s most inspirational and rarely seen gardens for the public
to enjoy.
Featuring 10 gardens designed by registered SGD members including Charles Rutherfoord,
Andy Sturgeon and Andrew Wilson, this year’s Trail will provide visitors with a
chance to see the work of some of the UK’s most experienced garden designers. Ranging
in size from small courtyards through to large family gardens and spread across
London from Bow in the east through to Shepherds Bush in the west, visitors will
be guaranteed a gardener’s treat to inspire the senses.
RHS How To Grow Practically Everything is a brand new publication and the latest
addition to DK’s highly successful and indispensable library of RHS books. It is
a comprehensive guide for the beginner gardener who is seeking confidence to try
their hand at growing a range of plants; from potting up herbs to creating herbaceous
borders for high summer colour. Each project is presented with clear instructions
and photography, showing what to do, any equipment needed, the time required and
what results to expect.
The ideas on offer in the book can be seen in practice throughout the Trail gardens,
and with the designers on hand during the day, visitors can be confident that any
design and gardening queries will be answered.
The 10 Trail gardens will be open between 12 – 5pm on Monday 3rd May, and are free
to visit, making it the prefect way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday. Visitors are
asked to pre-register for this year’s Trail by visiting
www.dk.com/gardentrail
- here they will also find further information about each garden, maps and travel
information. Registration is recommended, but not compulsory.
