John Innes Manufacturers Association Moves Under HTA Umbrella
The management and administration
of the John Innes Manufacturers Association (JIMA) has moved to the Horticultural
Trades Association (HTA).
JIMA sets standards for the production and quality control of John Innes products
and lays down technical specifications for each grade of John Innes. Each bag of
John Innes compost is marked with a recognisable JIMA Seal of Approval.
HTA Director General David Gwyther said, “We are delighted that JIMA has joined
the fold. Alongside the work we do through the Growing Media Association with JIMA
onboard we will be able to enhance our support to growing media manufacturers.”
He adds, “We will be able to assist members in developing a new strategy for maintaining
the strength of the JIMA seal of approval and promoting the product. As with the
other specialist groups under our umbrella our role is very much about adding value
and allowing groups to maintain their identity and the focus of their activity.”
Jamie Robinson, Chairman of JIMA adds, “I believe that this will be a good move
for JIMA members, it will enable us to improve the profile of JIMA and to focus
on product quality. With the current focus on peat reduction few consumers realise
that John Innes composts were the original peat reduced composts, and it is information
like this we want to get across to consumers.”
JIMA joins a growing number of specialist sector groups including the Growing Media
Association (GMA) and the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) that benefit
from the resources (skills, finance and communication) of the HTA.
