Fit to Bloom; the Jewel in the Crown of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Bursting With
Horticultural Delights
RHS Chelsea Flower Show, London SW3, 19-23 May
The number of applications to exhibit in the Great Pavilion, the heart of the RHS
Chelsea Flower Show, sponsored by Marshalls, has soared this year, according to
the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), organiser of the world's most famous gardening
event.
Alex Baulkwill, manager of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, explains: "Interest in the
Great Pavilion for 2009 has been phenomenal and we have received more applications
from plantsmen, florists and nurseries wanting to create displays than we have room
for. It is going to be bursting at the seams!"
The RHS has also noticed greater demand for larger displays this year as well.
Alex continues: "Previously we've included the Marshalls Garden Design Forum within
the Great Pavilion, but this year we're taking a new RHS 'talks theatre' into the
showground to make room for some of these bigger displays.
"For many, the Great Pavilion is what Chelsea is all about and 2009 won't disappoint
with old favourites, first-time exhibitors and specialist nurseries creating some
110 floral displays to fill the centre-piece of the show with the sights, smells
and vibrant colours that it is renowned for."
In the Great Pavilion in 2009:
- Chelsea veterans will include: Hillier Nurseries, Blackmore and Langdon, Jekka's
Herb Farm, Hardys Cottage Garden Plants, Avon Bulbs, Hampshire Carnivorous Plants,
Dibleys, Burnham Nurseries and Raymond Evison.
- New exhibitors will include: Wayne Hemmingway with an exhibit for Gateshead Council,
Zita Else, a Brazilian born florist whose style has been described as painting with
flowers and Plantagogo, a specialist nursery, which will be displaying Heucheras
Heucherella and Tiarellas from its collection of over 150 varieties.
